On Tuesday July 24th, Metrotown residents, many of whom are BCGEU members, will rally outside of the Burnaby city hall to protect their homes ahead of a public hearing that will determine the fate of this plan.
The rally will start at 6:30pm outside of the Burnaby City Hall.
Burnaby Demovictions Rally
When: Rally - 6:30pm
Where: Burnaby City Hall
(4949 Canada Way, Burnaby)
Burnaby city council recently postponed the demolition of 177 more units of affordable rental housing in the Metrotown area, asking the condo developers to incorporate non-market housing into their proposals. While this is a promising first step, we need to keep up pressure on council to put a full moratorium on demovictions because Burnaby has a rental vacancy of under 1 percent and is the third most expensive place in Canada to rent after Vancouver and Toronto.
This event is being organized by ACORN and will be held in the unceded Coast Salish territory.
