Over 300 families are facing eviction in Clayton.
In response to complaints about lack of parking in Clayton, the Surrey city council has decided that the solution to this problem is to evict hundreds of families. They made this decision despite knowing that Surrey has a rental unit vacancy rate of under 1%, which means many of these families will have to leave the city and some may even end up in a state of homelessness.
Many of community members, including several BCGEU members, are now organizing to fight these evictions. They have reached out to the media, spoken to city councillors and spoken out at city council hearings, but the city still has not reversed its decision.
They are now planning a rally this coming Sunday at 12pm outside of Surrey City Hall to bring the community together and call on city council to reverse their decision.
BCGEU members from the Clayton community and beyond will be there showing their support and solidarity.
